Mr. Kerlin is a Senior Fire Investigator with the Charlotte, North Carolina office. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Baltimore. Prior to joining S-E-A in 2012, he spent 35 years doing fire and explosion investigations for law enforcement, the fire service, and the private sector. During the past five years, Mr. Kerlin worked for a forensic engineering firm where he investigated origin and cause of multiple fires and explosions, including structures, residential and commercial, vehicles, personal, and commercial and marine fires. In addition to being a Certified Fire Investigator, a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, and a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator, he holds certifications in Hazardous Materials and Mold Remediation.
Throughout his career, he has testified as an expert witness at the district, circuit, and federal levels in court and depositions, for both criminal and civil cases. He is a licensed investigator in various states. He is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the Fire Science and Technology Educators Section, and the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI).
