Mr. Alarcon graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to joining S-E-A, Richard had 12 years experience as a Senior Electrical Engineer and Electrical Division Manager. He specialized in industrial/commercial facility design, power systems, electrical installation and troubleshooting electrical equipment. Mr. Alarcon is a Registered Professional Engineer in several states including Texas, Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, District of Columbia, New York, Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina.
Since joining S-E-A, Richard has conducted investigations and analyses in areas including: electrical fires, product failures analysis, shock and electrocution, lighting studies, electrical code compliance, lightning damage evaluation analysis, electrical construction issues and costs, scope/cost of repair reviews and vehicle fires.
His responsibilities at S-E-A include investigation of electrical faults and malfunctions—particularly those suspected of causing a fire; equipment damage and the analysis of various types of electrical power equipment (i.e., transformers, panelboards, circuit breakers and power lines), appliances; onsite and/or in the laboratory to determine the cause or result of the incident (i.e., fire, equipment damage, personal injury); and reconstruction of accidents to determine the mode, sequence and/or component of failure resulting in the damage to the equipment or individuals. Richard also has experience with LEED-certified projects and related electrical systems.
Richard’s professional affiliations include the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
