Electrical Failure Analysis
Electricity is so pervasive in our daily lives that most of us take it for granted.  This powerful force, however, can cause property damage, personal injury or electrocution.  When this happens, you can count on SEA’s Electrical Engineers, many of whom have a C.F.I. and/or C.F.E.I. certification, to assist in determining the cause.  Among many issues, their expertise allows them to:
  • Electrical Expert (Electrical Failure Analysis Expert)Conduct and/or assist in small to large-scale fire investigations.
  • Forensically examine electrical faults and malfunctions, particularly those suspected of causing a fire, equipment damage, injury or electrocution.
  • Reconstruct electrical incidents to determine the mode, sequence and/or component of failure.
  • Analyze a multitude of commercial, industrial and/or utility equipment and systems for cause of failure or problems with power quality, i.e., blackouts, brownouts, surges, spikes, etc.
  • Examine electrical appliances and products onsite or in the laboratory to determine their roles in a loss.
  • Conduct testing to determine the reliability of products.
  • Examine electrical equipment and systems thought to have sustained lightning damage.
  • Provide assistance in determining repair vs. replacement of equipment and systems.  Estimate costs of electrical equipment and system damages.

The diverse backgrounds and experiences of SEA’s Electrical Engineers have proven to be an extremely valuable internal resource in many investigations.  This team understands fire, product failure analysis, subrogation, and conducting thorough investigations following the guidelines of the scientific method.
